I can’t believe I overlooked Kreg jigs for such aa long time. I believed these were fly by night products. I eventually realized just how many of the people I follow on YouTube were utilizing them to great results, and one video specifically convinced me of the velocity of making cabinets with one of these things so I purchased the K5. The initial project I had a need to do has been a rigid bed slat type thing for the new IKEA mattress because I couldn’t think IKEA wanted $80 for just one. I built it with this particular tool and lower than $20 in 1×4 lumber. It had been done in hardly over one hour including trimming everything to size, chamfering the edges with a finger plane, drilling the pocket openings, and putting together with a face clamp. I’m redesigning my garage area into an appropriate workshop with custom made cupboards rather than the repurposed types I’ve been making use of. This thing already covered half of its price on the initial project, and the others will be covered in the initial cabinet I build. Then it will just continue steadily to buy me more time and efficiency. I simply wish I had got it sooner. It sickens me to take into account the quantity of time I possibly could have stored on countless projects during the last couple of years if I’d currently possessed one of these brilliant, or any previous development. My only two nit-picks are that the fast release button to regulate the thickness of the material will be stiff and uncomfortable (also it will be great if there have been several indexed marks to rapidly set for different materials thicknesses without performing the trial-and-error method, but that is still FAR quicker than the previous technique with a screw and jamb nut), and I must say i don’t worry for the tiny stepped drill depth quit template point. Very poor style. The template that has been molded in to the K4 will be CLEARLY an excellent system because you can find no pieces to reduce and no really need to fumble with several pieces to utilize it. Even though this additional 2 cents well worth of injection molded plastic material were deemed worthwhile for some developer or marketer, there is absolutely no excuse for really removing the old style from the brand new clamp. It could have already been molded into this equally well as it has been on the K4. For that stupid choice I am docking a complete celebrity. I’m tempted to dock even more because it is really that stupid, however the remaining functionality of the truth is easily worth 5 stars. Despite having that flaw it’s nevertheless worth it due to the drill-part clamp lever. Which makes it greatly easier and quicker to use compared to the aged reach-around. While we’re at it, I would like it if it didn’t cost therefore damn very much for the micro and HD templates. It is a substantial expense considering what really shipped (never to be puzzled with the specific value of experiencing it), and the excess pennies worth of plastic and dimes worth of steel might have been incorporated at $10 more to create this a whole system. Oh well. That’s capitalism and I purchased them anyway for a supplementary $100 in order to use all dimensions. I’m irritated at the purchase price for those add-ons, but delighted with the entire functionality.
